The International Opera Academy's task is to prepare young singers for the complex job awaiting them in the profession. IOA’s teachers have direct links with the international professional opera practice. The curriculum consists of many hours of coaching in the repertoire, language coaching and acting training. Furthermore, attention is paid to musicology and dramaturgy: students study libretto and performance analysis. By means of targeted courses, they are intensively prepared for professional practice and the unavoidable auditions.
IOA cooperates with several major European opera houses, including Kunsthuis Opera Vlaanderen, la Monnaie / de Munt, Aalto-Musiktheater (DE), Opera de Oviedo (ES) and Nederlandse Reisopera (NL). Its studios are located in Ghent. Guy Joosten is IOA’s artistic director.
