Maarten Van Ingelgem (°1976) studied piano at the Conservatory of Brussels with Jan Michiels and composition at the Conservatory of Antwerp with Wim Henderickx. In addition to his work as a piano instructor and accompanist, he teaches composition in Dilbeek, near Brussels. Van Ingelgem conducts the mixed chamber choir for contemporary music De 2de Adem (The Second Wind) and is one of the bass singers of Aquarius, also dedicated to contemporary vocal music.
As a composer, he has already created over sixty compositions, ranging from solo work to string quartets, from a chamber opera to a piano concerto, for which he was awarded the Contemporary Music Prize of the Province of East Flanders. Sabam, the Belgian Association of Authors, Composers and Publishers, honoured him with the Golden Poppy for his choral oeuvre. Van Ingelgem also received the European Award for Choral Composers for his compositions '24 12 1914' and 'Fairy Ring'.
