Spectra was founded in 1993. The core of the ensemble has been working together for over 20 years and has developed an idiosyncratic sound and musical coherence. The ensemble advocates contemporary composers who are living and working in Flanders. Filip Rathé is artistic director and conductor of the ensemble.
Spectra collaborates with artists working in various disciplines. The ensemble performs on festivals in Europe and beyond, including Ars Musica (BE), Transit (BE), Festival of Flanders (BE), Festival Musica Nova (BR), November Music Festival (NL/BE/DE), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (GB), the Biennale Venezia (IT), Aurora Festival (World Music Days 2010) Sydney (AU), Gaida Festival (LT), Festival Musica Strasbourg (FR) and many major venues.
