The Flemish Radio Choir was founded in 1937 by the Belgian public broadcaster (NIR/INR), now VRT and RTBf. In 2011, Hervé Niquet was appointed chief conductor. He works on achieving a recognisable sonority and is planning a wide range of projects, from lesser-known French romantic music to contemporary premieres.
A first and important pillar of the Flemish Radio Choir programme is the a cappella concert, with which the ensemble tours annually throughout Flanders. In addition to this, the choir regularly works with renowned (inter)national instrumental ensembles, such as the Brussels Philharmonic, the Budapest Festival Orchestra (HU) and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (NL).
