Jan Michiels

Jan Michiels (°1966) studied with Abel Matthys at the Conservatory of Brussels. Afterwards he worked at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin (DE) under the direction of Hans Leygraf. Michiels regularly performs as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles, among which the piano quartet Tetra Lyre and the duo with Inge Spinette, in Europe and Asia, and works with choreographers such as Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Vincent Dunoyer and Sen Hea Ha. His repertoire extends from Bach to the contemporary composers. In addition to his many radio recordings, he recorded CDs with work from a.o. Bach, Bartók, Beethoven, Brahms, Busoni, Debussy, Dvorák, Janáček, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Ligeti, Kurtág and Goeyvaerts. On the concert stage, he has brought different cycles, among which the complete Beethoven sonatas, the complete piano works of Schönberg, Webern, Berg, Debussy, Bartók, Janáček and Ligeti, and all of Johannes Brahms chamber music with piano.

Michiels currently teaches piano at the Conservatory in Brussels.
