Jozef De Beenhouwer

An online special by:

As a child, Jozef De Beenhouwer (°1948) acquired an extensive repertoire knowledge, with a special preference for the music of Robert Schumann. He studied at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel and the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp where he graduated summa cum laude in 1975 in the class of Lode Backx.

Jozef De Beenhouwer made many international recordings for radio and television, and realised numerous records and CDs including the first recordings of the complete piano works of Clara Schumann.

From 1983 until 2013, De Beenhouwer, succeeding his teacher Lode Backx, taught piano at the Conservatoire in Antwerp, where he also taught chamber music. From 1990 until 2015, he was artistic director of the Middagconcerten in Brussels.
