Opera Ballet Vlaanderen

An online special by:

Opera Ballet Vlaanderen performs with its own choir and orchestra in opera houses in Antwerp and Ghent. It sees opera as an artistic discipline in which visual and auditory components are of equal importance and therefore focuses on topics that are relevant today. The programme contains both new or unknown works and contemporary interpretations of well-known repertory pieces, ranging from 17th-century music theatre to the most recent works. The company has worked with Flemish directors including Jan Fabre, Guy Joosten and Ivo van Hove.

In addition to their opera programme, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen also presents a programme of symphonic concerts, lunchtime concerts and song recitals. In 2000, Opera Vlaanderen founded the Flanders Operastudio, now International Opera Academy, a postgraduate training for young opera singers. In 2014, Opera Vlaanderen merged with Royal Ballet Flanders.
