Peter Vermeersch

An online special by:

Bandleader, composer and reed instrument player Peter Vermeersch's (°1959) debut with Union and his collaboration with filmmaker and composer Thierry De Mey, writing for dance, led to founding the ensemble Maximalist! which became a vehicle for composing for and accompanying choreographies. In 1988, Vermeersch formed X-Legged Sally, performing music for dance productions and incorporating more rock- and jazz-based approaches, making numerous recordings. After XLS's demise in 1997, Vermeersch founded A Group, releasing two albums until it disbanded two years later.

During the short life of A Group, a new and Vermeersch's longest-lasting project up until now, began to take shape: Flat Earth Society. Over the years, FES has been involved in numerous music theatre, dance, film soundtrack, and unclassifiable projects. With Pierre Vervloesem, a member of XLS and A Group, Vermeersch also co-produced dEUS' 1994 debut album Worst Case Scenario, playing bass clarinet on the eponymous track.
