Reinoud Van Mechelen obtained his Master's degree at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2012. In 2017 he was awarded the prestigious Caecilia Prize as Young Musician of the Year by the Association of the Belgian Music Press. Van Mechelen performs regularly with several major Baroque ensembles, including Les Arts Florissants, Collegium Vocale Gent, La Petite Bande, Il Gardellino, B'Rock, Scherzi Musicali and the European Union Baroque Orchestra. He also made a name for himself as an opera singer with his debut in 2019-2020 in the role of Nadir (Les Pêcheurs de perles) at the Opéra de Toulon, Purcell's King Arthur at the Staatsoper Berlin, Rameau’s Pygmalion at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, L'Incoronazione di Poppea (Arnalta) in the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and both the St John Passion and the St Matthew Passion with Collegium Vocale Gent.
Van Mechelen's first own CD of 2016 (with his ensemble a nocte temporis), titled ‘Erbarme dich’, was unanimously praised by the press and received a Choc Classica and a Caecilia Prize 2016. Meanwhile 4 more CDs of a nocte temporis were released by Alpha Classics.
