Serge Verstockt (°1957) studied solfège and sound technique at the Brussels Conservatory and clarinet at the Antwerp Conservatory with Walter Boeykens. At Joris Delaet's Studio voor Experimentele Muziek (SEM) in Antwerp, he was introduced to electronic sound manipulation. With Gottfried Michael Koenig at the Instituut voor Sonologie in Utrecht, Verstockt learned formal practices of composition and computer-assisted composition.
In 1988, Verstockt founded ChampdAction. As its artistic director and also afterwards, Verstockt wrote several compositions. At the end of the 1990s he was also junior fellow of the KBC Chair of New Music at the musicology department of the University of Leuven. In 2007, Verstockt wrote music for Jan Fabre/Troubleyn and in 2008 for BL!NDMAN. In 2013 and 2015 the first two parts of his ‘Opéra de trash’ trilogy, the brutal confrontation with a fragmentary world that balances between reality and virtual reality, had their premiere.
